Distance Education Support

We provide support for UAA's distance education students and faculty. We act as a liaison between students, faculty, and academic departments, provide general support related to online courses, and coordinate test proctoring services.

Instructional Design

Our Instructional Design team can assist you or your group with all levels of the course design process. From incorporating new technology, to moving a course online, Instructional Designers are here to help.

Professional Development Workshops and Events

We offer tool- and concept-specific workshops, both in-person and by distance, to assist you with incorporating technology into your courses. We can also work with you and your group to schedule and tailor our popular iTeach group training for your specific needs and goals.

Instructional Resources

We consistently offer web-based Instructor Resources pages for Blackboard and other technologies, as well as self-paced online training tutorials from Atomic Learning.

Test Scanning

We offer Scantron exam sheet scoring, with optional analysis reports within 72 hours.

To submit a Test Scanning Request, download, fill-in and print the Test Scanning Request Form (pdf) and bring it to LIB 215.

Multimedia

We support instructors in delivering course content with multimedia. We offer video and audio recording, editing, encoding and streaming services, and house some digital toys available for testing and demo.

Technology Innovation Grants & Awards

Available to all UAA instructors or programs, The Technology Innovation Grants and Awards  are each $1000. Awarded in both the Fall and Spring semesters, the Grant is to fund proposed future projects. The Teaching with Technology Award recognizes the outstanding use of technology in teaching, with $1000 awarded at the end of the Spring semester for work already completed.

ePortfolios

We provide leadership at UAA for the developing and deploying electronic portfolio technologies and pedagogies.

Learning Communities

  • Technology Fellows
    Instructional technology leaders from all UAA Campuses who serve as models and mentors for their colleagues, this carefully selected cohort serves a 2 year fellowship with the 2nd year focusing on mentoring the next cohort.
  • Academic Commons Online Community
    An online community of faculty and staff from all UAA Campuses, exchanging knowledge in the interest of improving the quality of teaching, innovation, and communication. Join the conversation at commons.uaa.alaska.edu
  • eLearning Workgroup
    Consisting of faculty and support staff from across UAA, this voluntary group convenes twice a month, and includes subcommittees that focus on current trends and research in eLearning.

National Memberships

We offer resources through funding UAA’s memberships with national educational entities. You may be eligible to receive free or low cost training and other benefits through our affiliations.

Internet Course Exchange: WICHE ICE

UAA is part of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education Internet Course Exchange (WICHE ICE). Thousands of students from Alaska have attended undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in other Western states through WICHE’s Student Exchange Program, saving millions of dollars, thanks to reduced tuition rates.
