Students with Undeclared Majors
Students admitted to UAA who are seeking a bachelor's degree but are undecided about which major to choose are advised to declare "Exploratory" as their major. All students who have declared Exploratory as their major and those students seeking the Associate of Arts degree are assigned to an advisor in the Advising and Testing Center. Students attending UAA as non-degree seeking students may also seek advisement through the Advising and Testing Center. Please remember to bring your picture ID each time you meet with your advisor.
What help can you expect from your Academic Advisor? Advisors help students select courses required to complete UAA's General Education Requirements and suggest courses which may be of interest to students. Advisors also help students select a major, and provide guidance, support and referrals to encourage students to take advantage of UAA resources designed to support their success.
The Advising and Testing Center also offers academic courses such as GUID A150 "Creating Success in College" (3 cr.) to help students develop strategies for achieving academic success in college and COUN A101 "Introduction to Career Exploration" (1 cr.) to teach investigative strategies for selecting an academic major and related career.
How to Make An Appointment? You can make an appointment to meet with an advisor by calling 907-786-4500. You are welcome to request an appointment with a specific advisor. Advising appointments are scheduled for 45 minutes. To get the most out of your visit, it is a good idea to prepare by making a list of the questions you want to ask.
