It is not uncommon for students to experience some anxiety during the days leading up to an exam and additional anxiety while taking the exam. However, when anxiety becomes high enough to impact exam performance, you have a problem. The inability to resolve with this problem can seriously impact your academic performance and jeopardize your success in college. The good news is there are ways to “cure” or minimize test taking anxiety.
There are multiple causes of test taking anxiety. The first step is to understand the underlying causes of your anxiety, then identify helpful coping strategies and techniques to keep your anxiety under control. If you believe test taking anxiety is limiting your ability to be successful in your classes, we recommend you seek help. The Advising and Testing Center provides UAA students an opportunity to meet one-on-one with an advisor to assess the extent of your problem and provide you with helpful hints and techniques to control high levels of anxiety associated with taking exams.
