Program Overview

The Medical Laboratory Science department has a strong commitment to the career ladder approach to higher education. With Career Ladder programs, the students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science have an option to gain Phlebotomy certification in one year and Medical Laboratory Technician certification in two years as they pursue a bachelor’s degree. The A.A.S. graduates who wish to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science may "career ladder” without loss of credit.

The AAS in Medical Laboratory Technology and the BS in Medical Laboratory Science programs are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), 5600 N. River Road, Suite 720, Rosemont IL, 60018-5119 (Phone: 773-714-8880). NAACLS is recognized by the United States Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Medical Laboratory Science department is to graduate competent and ethical clinical laboratory professionals with the knowledge and the skills for career entry. It is also the department’s mission to prepare graduates for leadership roles in the clinical laboratory and professional organizations and to instill an understanding of the need for maintaining continuing competency in a rapidly changing and dynamic profession.

 

 
 
 

Informational Session

The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program will be hosting an informational session on Friday, 10, from 3-4:30pm in AHS 207.  This informational session is designed for prospective students and declared pre-majors or majors who want to learn more about the Associate's and Bachelor's medical laboratory science degree programs including prerequisites and special program requirements.  Seats are limited.  To RSVP, please call 907-786-4894.
