Medical Imaging Sciences


The Medical Imaging Sciences Program at UAA prepares students for employment as medical imaging professionals and provides continuing education training opportunities for registered imaging professionals and non-imaging health care professionals. The Medical Imaging Science program offers career pathways in the following areas:

The AAS Radiologic Technology Program prepares students for employment as career entry Medical Radiographers.  The program of study incorporates didactic instruction, laboratory demonstration and clinical application in a manner that provides correlation of theory with practice. The inclusion of general university requirements fulfills program goals of developing knowledgeable and competent practitioners who will have opportunities for continued professional growth.

The  AAS Diagnostic Medical Sonography Programis designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in a healthcare setting as a general sonographer.  Examples of examinations performed by general sonographers include abdominal, gynecological, fetal, and vascular.  The program of study incorporates didactic instruction, laboratory demonstration and clinical application.

The Occupational Endorsement Certificate in Limited Radiography prepares non-imaging health care professionals such as Community Health Aides, CNAs, RNs, and CMAs to take radiographic images.  The Limited Radiography Program is delivered entirely online. 

The Medical Imaging Sciences Program also offers CEUs, workshops and other trainings for Medical Radiographers including Mammography and Fluoroscopy courses.  For information on upcoming continuing education opportunities, please contact the Medical Imaging Program Administrative Assistant at 907-786-6940.

Informational Session

 The Medical Imaging Sciences program will be hosting an informational session on Friday, May 10th, 2013 from 1-1:30pm in AHS 207.  This informational session is designed for prospective students and declared pre-majors who want to learn more information about the Radiologic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs including program requirements, prerequisites, and application processes.  Seats are limited; to RSVP please call 907-786-6940.
