Program History
The Medical Imaging Sciences department has developed a five-semester, 62-credit hour sequenced program of study based on national curriculum guidelines established by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), and certification eligibility requirements determined by the American Registry of Radiologic (ARRT.) Today's medical imaging specialist must possess a knowledge base in the biological, behavioral, mathematical and technological sciences. Community Partnerships have been established and have been expanded beyond the Anchorage area.
Competitiveness
Due to accreditation requirements, workforce demands and clinical sites, a limited number of students are accepted into the program. Anchorage and Fairabnks accept students annually, 12-16 students in Anchorage 4-6 students in Fairbanks. Because of this limitation in class size, some fully qualified applicants may not be accepted. Only the top 40 candidates will be interviewed in person at our Anchorage location (Anchorage applicants) or Fairbanks (Fairbanks applicants).
Distance Delivered Sites
The Radiologic Technology Program distance delivers to numerous sites within the state of Alaska. Kenai and Juneau accept students on even numbered years. Bethel and Ketchikan accept students on odd numbered years. Students who are accepted into the distance sites attend classes on the campuses in those communities through video conferencing.
Course Sequencing
To accommodate course prerequisites and scheduling, students will follow this course sequence (unless they have previously arranged an alternative plan of study). The GER courses included at the end of each semester sequence may be completed prior to entering the program and are required for all A.A./A.A.S. degrees. Completion of GER requirements prior to application to the program will improve your application score. Each student's course schedule sequence may vary according to required prerequisite courses.

- Time Demands
The Radiologic Technology Program is a full-time, two-year endeavor, not including program course prerequisites and general degree requirements.
- Mental and Physical Demands
It is essential that Radiological Technology students be able to perform a number of physical activities in the clinical portion of the program. At a minimum, students will be required to lift 50 pounds, stand for several hours at a time and perform bending activities.
Radiological Technology also places students under considerable mental and emotional stress as they undertake responsibilities and duties impacting patients' lives. Students must be able to demonstrate rational and appropriate behavior under stressful conditions. Individuals should give careful consideration to the mental and physical demands of the program prior to applying to the program.

Program Cost
Additional expenses include clinical attire, vaccinations, indentification badge, background check and other organization fees.
CPR Requirement
Please note proof of CPR Certification must be accredited by the American Heart Association and include Adult, Infant, Child and AED.
