Abstract: The author identifies the following as a key issue: How much does the occurrence and severity of FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) or FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) in the child affect the life of that child, as well as the whole family? The author states that we need to understand the nature and magnitude of the FAS/FASD influence on the child and its environment. We therefore need knowledge of the FAS/FASD psychological and biological effects on the child, and we need knowledge of the actual occurrence of FAS/FASD in the community, now and in the future.
