I am a boarded veterinary pathologist doing primarily wildlife pathology and research. With UAA I have had several Prescott grants to do Marine mammal stranding response and training for the entire Alaska stranding program.

What I do for the Department:
I have given a marine mammal necropsy independent study class for students and plan to have another this spring. This allows the students a change to learn about the stranding program, learn the basic procedures for strandings and diagnosis for cause of death.

The overarching goal of my research is to make significant advances in our fundamental understanding of the mechanisms that underlie inter- and intra-specific variation in daily and seasonal timing and to explore the ecological and evolutionary drivers of this variation.I'm also interested in delineating the linkages between nutritional state, physiological stress, and population-level processes in vertebrates.

What I do for the Department:
I'm currently serving as co-PI on an NSF award investigating the persistence, entertainment, and function of circadian rhythms in arctic grounds squirrels. I also serve as a mentor to undergraduate students conducting independent research projects.
