Lauren Bruce, CAFE Director (On Sabbatical Fall 09)

Lauren Bruce is Director of the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE), the faculty development center at the University of Alaska Anchorage, and Associate Professor of Communication at UAA. Since joining the university in 1990, she has served in leadership capacities on most of its major governance bodies, including President of the UAA Faculty Senate, Chair of the UA Faculty Alliance, Chair of the UA Presidential Search Evaluation Committee, and member of the UAA Accreditation Committee. During her tenure, CAFE has focused on multiculturalism and diversity, sustainability, student retention, the scholarship of teaching and learning, difficult dialogues, critical thinking across the curriculum, technology and pedagogy, and developing a learner-centered campus. She has received numerous awards for service, including the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Service, the UAA Faculty Senate Award for Service, the Edith R. Bullock for Excellence and election to Phi Kappa Phi.

Lynn Koshiyama,

Lynn Koshiyama is Interim CAFE Director and Professor of Accounting at UAA.  Prior to joining the Anchorage Community College faculty (which merged with UAA) in 1985, she worked in public and private accounting.  She has served on a number of UAA committees, including the Teaching Excellence Program Committee, the Advisory Committee for the Center for Community Engagement & Learning, the CAFÉ Advisory Council, Faculty Evaluation Task Force, Freshman Convocation Planning Committee, Career Services Center Faculty Advisory Board, Student Showcase Committee and the Faculty Grants and Leaves Committee.  She currently serves on the board of the Anchorage Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Alaska Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy and the Shimizu Foundation.

Libby Roderick is the Associate Director for CAFE, focusing especially on issues related to difficult dialogues, sustainability and climate change, and effective teaching to diverse student populations. She serves on the Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Sustainability, and chairs the Communication and Culture subcommittee for the Council.

Liisa Morrison, CAFE's Office Manager

Liisa Morrison is CAFE’s Office Manager. She keeps the entire enterprise afloat and functioning. Prior to joining CAFE in 2007, Liisa worked for ten years with the Union of Students, advising and providing support to over 40 student clubs at UAA.
