Stage 1: Getting Started

• Explore interests, values, and skills by taking a variety of classes. 
• Take the interests assessments ans self-assessments surveys available on Alaska Career Information Systems.
• Get involved in student clubs and campus activities around UAA or clubs and organizations in the community to continue developing leadership skills.
• Participate in volunteer programs.
• Plan a summer work experience to investigate a career interest. 
• Get a part-time job to develop skills.
• Begin developing good relationships with faculty and advisors.
• Focus on making grades a priority.
• Start putting together a list of work and volunteer experience, awards, and other marketable skills for your resume.

Stage 2: Career Exploration and Development of Marketable Skill

• Continue your involvement in leadership positions around campus or in the community.
• Decide on a major.
• Continue building relationships with faculty and mentors.
• Seek out job shadowing opportunities through the Career Services Center's program.
• Perform informational interviews with various professionals to research career options.
• Take elective courses to develop marketable skills. 
• Plan for an internship.
• Refine your resume.

Stage 3: Build Experience & Network

• Gain additional leadership experience.
• Explore internship opportunities with various companies in your career path.
• Start investigating your options if you are considering graduate school.
• Build your resume by meeting with a staff member of the Career Services Center.

Stage 4: Job Searching Skills

• Develop strategies for  or getting ifinding a jobnto graduate school.
• Develop interviewing skills by attending workshops and doing mock interviews.
• Attend resume and cover letter writing workshops.
• Hone networking skills to assist in the job search process.
• Attend the career fairs that Career Services Center hosts in the fall and spring semesters.
• Begin a list of target employers that you would like to apply for jobs with.
