General Education Requirements

The General Education Requirements (GER) provide students with a common educational experience to (1) provide a foundation for further study, and (2) broaden the educational experience of every degree-seeking student. It promotes an elevation of the student's level in basic, college-level skills (Tier 1), a breadth of exposure to traditional academic disciplines (Tier 2), and experience in applying an education to understanding and responding to the evolving state of knowledge and the world in the 21st century (Tier 3). 

Baccalaureate Degrees

Students seeking a Baccalaureate Degree are required to complete 37 credits of General Education Requirements (GER).

2011-2012 GER list

Associate of Applied Science Degrees

Students seeking an Associate Degree are required to complete 15 credits of General Course Requirements.  The recommended courses are listed below. Please see your catalog for official requirements.

• 3 credits Oral Communication Skills
  COMM A111, A235, A237, or A241
  Students planning to pursue a BBA Degree can maximize transferability of their credits by taking COMM A111 or A241
  
  
• 6 credits Written Communication Skills
  English A111 and 3 credits from the following: CIOS A260A, ENGL A211, A212, A213, or A214
  Students planning to pursue a BBA Degree can maximize transferability of their credits by taking ENGL A212
  
  
• 6 credits of General Course Requirements from humanities, math, natural sciences, or social sciences
  Students planning to pursue a BBA Degree are encouraged to use the Baccalaureate GER list (i.e. ECON A201 and A202)
