UAA CM Club/AGC Student ChapterAGC Fun Night and Dog House Design Competition
At the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Fun Night and Dog House Design Competition sponsored by Kiewit Construction Group in November 2012, the Construction Management Club/AGC Student Chapter showed their Green and Gold spirit with a dog house made using primarily recycled materials for the construction and a design inspired by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). The dog house (pictured above with club members Melody Miller, Pamela Esbenshade, Jacob Mathiesen, and Jessica Gilbert) was built with recycled wood fencing and a majority of its fasteners were reclaimed from the fence itself. To reflect the rustic beauty and spirit of Alaska, the design team chose to leave the natural weatherization finish on the fencing. The top of the Arctic Dog House is designed as a Green Roof. The roof is ready to be planted with any variety of plants desired for any season. With five members participating and the attendance of supportive family, the event was reported as a great success and a wonderful opportunity to get the Construction Management program some positive exposure.
