Organic Chemistry lab is a practical implementation of the theory learned in CHEM A321 and CHEM A322. Purification techniques, spectroscopic methods, and synthetic methods of organic compounds are taught.
The prerequisites for this course are CHEM 106L with a minimum grade of C and CHEM 321 with a minimum grade of C and (CHEM 322 with a minimum grade of C or concurrent enrollment).
Female students who are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant during the semester in which they will be taking this laboratory course will need to consult their physician first. Many of the chemicals used in this course are known teratogens!
All CHEM A323 labs are held in CPSB 311. Registered students must attend the first day of labs and they must attend with a lab manual, goggles, and lab coat. These are available through the campus bookstore. Students who miss their first day of labs may forfeit their space in lab.
Students shall be dressed appropriately for lab or entry into lab shall be denied. Review section 3c in the Chemistry Department's Teaching Laboratory Safety Agreement and Procedures for an overview of our dress code.
