No previous Chinese language background required! Offers basic study of grammatical structures and vocabulary in a communicative context. Introduces Simplified Chinese Characters and aspects of Chinese culture. Prerequisite: Elementary Conversational Mandarin Chinese I or a placement test with the instructor. Instructor: Xiaojun Fan Time: 6-8pm, every Thursday, Jan 10th - April 30th Room: ESH 104, UAA Main Campus Fee: $180.00( including textbooks and materials) Class Cap: 20 Mandarin Chinese for Parents and Kids I This course offers parents and kids an opportunity to study Chinese language together and practice it at home. Language learning is through games, singing, dancing and other various activities in the classroom. The course will focus on listening and speaking but some reading and writing will be introduced too. If you have no prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese or if you've only learned a little bit previously, this course is designed specifically for you. Age for kids: 5 and up. Each kid must have one of his/her parents as accompany in the classroom. Instructor: Xiaojun Fan Time: 2:00pm-4:00pm, every Saturday, Jan 10th-April 30th Room: RH220, UAA Main Campus. Class Cap: 20 Chinese Characters II This is a course for everyone who wants to concentrate on learning Chinese characters. Each Chinese character has a story. Learn about Chinese culture as you learn the origins and meaning of the individual characters. Instructor: Jiying Huang Time: 9:00am-11:00am, every Saturday, Jan 10th-April 30th Room: RH112, UAA Main Campus Fee: $180.00 (including textbooks and materials) Class Cap: 15 If you are UAA students, you can go to UAONLINE to register a course directly. If you are from community, please go to http://uaonline.alaska.edu and submit a non-degree seeking application online. You need to provide SSN, DOB and personal contact information. Once this is complete, you will be given a UAA ID number. With a UAA ID number, you can either register online or do a paper add/drop from and have registrar office manually register you for course.
