UAA Confucius Institute is pleased to announce the 2011 Chinese Bridge for American Schools, a week-long program in China for American educators.School and district leaders are invited to attend this unique education trip to China as guests of Hanban and UAA Confucius Institute.

What is covered by Hanban?

• Half of the international round-trip air tickets (from Anchorage to Beijing).
• Travel cost in China, including hotel accommodations, group meals, tour guides and admission tickets and local and inter-city transportation costs.

Here are activities that you will do in China:

• Visit Chinese schools and meet with Chinese educators and students.
• Participate in partnership-building workshops and networking sessions.
• Attend presentations and learn about resources to build and support Chinese language and culture programs.
• Share experience with US and Chinese educators.
• Experience China firsthand and marvel at the rich traditional culture set against stunning modern development.

Who is eligible to apply?

• State and district  leaders, principals and other decision-makers with oversight of foreign language learning.
• School leaders from institutions developing new Chinese programs or expanding existing Chinese language and culture programs.
• Multiple applicants from the same institution will be considered. Each applicant is required to submit an individual application.
• Participants in previous Chinese bridge delegations are not eligible to participate.

What is the cost to delegates?

Delegates are responsible for half of their individual round-trip international airfare from US to China as well as their Chinese tourist visa fee.  Delegates are also responsible for costs and arrangements related to domestic travel to Anchorage and travel insurance.

Do you need a passport?

Yes! Delegates are required to have a valid passport with at least six months validity from the date of departure (i.e. with an expiration date of Dec. 19, 2011 or later). Proof of a valid passport will be required to confirm participation of selected applicants.
