The Academy of Music of Northeast Normal University has gained high reputation in national as well as the provincial and municipal performing competitions since its foundation in 1956. The students of the Department of Dance and music won the second prize in the National Dance Competition on CCTV in the self-designed and self-direct session with the dance “ the Last Tango” in 2009. In 2003 in the Seventh "Taoli Cup" (Peach and Plume Cup) Dance Competition of China Youth Art Competition, the dance department students won two high prizes with "The 1000 Red" as Performance Third Prize and Creation Third Prize and folk dance" Black Pearl "as Outstanding Performance Award.
