Changes and reminders for faculty

The course template has been slightly updated for summer and fall:in the course menu, Communications has been merged into Tools.  The Communications area from old courses may not work correctly in new courses - and we recommend not copying it.  You can customize the Tools area for students by hiding or showing the various tools.

Blackboard and all UAA correspondence will be to your UAA email account - you cannot forward this account.  Please log in to your UAA faculty account regularly. This is particularly important for adjunct faculty.  Student email from Blackboard goes to this account.

Course copy confirmation emails not being sent

Blackboard is supposed to send a confirmation email when a course copy operation is complete. That confirmation email is not being sent. The workaround is to check for a success message in your course shell. When you perform the course copy, after you click the submit button, make sure you see the green status bar at the top of the window. Then wait a few minutes and check to see if the content has been copied into the new course. If you don't see the content, wait a few more minutes, refresh the browser, and check again. There may be a delay because course copy requests are queued in the system.

Email from Announcements now fixed!

A patch on May 21 fixed the problem.

Elluminate Publish now free

Elluminate Publish, the desktop software that converts Elluminate Live (eLive) recordings to standalone files, is now free for instructors to download and install. eLive will reach its end of life in summer 2013.

Recommended Browsers

Chrome is the preferred browser to use with Blackboard.

The Call Center sees fewer problems with Chrome than with the other browsers.  They see the most problems with Internet Explorer.  There are problems with Firefox and the Grade Center.

Blackboard claims the following browsers are compatible:

  • Windows:  Firefox 3.6, 8, or 9; Chrome 16 or greater
  • MacOS: Firefox 3.6, 8, or 9; Chrome 16 or greater; or Safari 4 or 5
If something is not displaying correctly, try a different browser.
