Occupational Endorsement Certificates

The occupational endorsement certificate (OEC) provides training in a specific occupational area which indicates competence in technical and professional skills. The certificates are articulated to the AAS degree.

Many University of Alaska Anchorage Certificate and Occupational Endorsement Certificate programs are defined as Gainful Employment programs for the purposes of student financial aid. Valuable information about these programs including program cost, graduation rates, job placement rates, student loan debt, and other important information can be found by visiting the UAA Gainful Employment Disclosure website.

CIOS offers the following occupational endorsement certificates:

Corporate Specified Skills (19 credits)
Enables employers to target skill sets needed for positions within a specific business or industry. Consulting with a faculty adviser, students will complete a study plan, which will formally establish the specific program requirements. The study plan becomes official once it is approved by the department chair and is filed with Enrollment Management. Upon completing  the specific requirements established in the study plan, students will be entitled to the certificate. Businesses can contact the department to develop specific criteria to meet individual job specifications. Note: this is not an individually customized OEC. Skill sets must be developed based on specific job descriptions approved by the department and industry. This OEC may be repeated with a different study plan.
Prerequisite: Office Foundations OEC.

Please see an advisor for more information on this certificate. You can schedule an appointment by calling 786-6423.

The following OECs are under suspension as of Spring 2013. The department will not be admitting any new students to them.

Bookkeeping (14 credits)
Provides essential skills to handle financial transactions and record keeping.

Medical Office Support (15 credits)
Provides a solid foundation for individuals seeking a support position in a medical office.

Office Digital Media (15 credits)
Builds on the Office Foundations OEC with basic skills in website maintenance and desktop publishing sometimes required of administrative assistants in an office setting.

Technical Support (13 credits)
This OEC blends the skills of a network technician with those of the administrative support professional by providing basic skills for setting up and troubleshooting computer hardware and networks.
