Students who meet all the requirements of one of UAA’s approved programs may apply for an Institutional Recommendation (IR) for teacher, counselor, or administrator licensure.  The Office of Student Engagement assists candidates in this application process.

Steps to Professional Licensure (UAA Graduate)

Step 1: Apply for an Institutional Recommendation (IR). Submit the application to the administrative assistant for the student’s admitted department (Teaching & Learning, Counseling and Special Education, or Educational Leadership) or the Office of Student Engagement, PSB 209.

Step 2: Order an official transcript online. Request that the transcript order be held for both degree posting and IR posting.

Step 3: Apply for Certification from the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development.
