Counseling and Special Education (CASE)
The Department of Counseling and Special Education (CASE) offers programs for individuals interested in becoming special educators, speech pathologists, or counselors. Graduates of our programs assume leadership roles in their local districts and the state. Counseling and special education professionals demonstrate a commitment to inclusiveness and equity in their interactions with children with diverse needs. They serve as exemplars of a collaborative spirit as they interact with other educators, families and community agencies and model intellectual vitality as they examine and implement research and best practices in their work settings.
The mission of CASE is threefold: (1) to prepare graduate students for teaching roles that support the educational growth and development of children experiencing disabilities, (2) to develop competent and ethical counselors prepared to assume professional roles within school and community settings, and (3) to provide foundational coursework and ongoing clinical experiences designed to prepare and support graduate students in speech-language pathology. This mission is consistent with the mission of the College of Education and emphasizes innovation, excellence, and collaboration.
