Anatomy & Physiology 3 credits
Provides a functional background in anatomy and physiology of the systems involved in human communication. Covers the following structures and systems: respiratory, phonatory, articulations, nervous system, auditory system, mastication, and deglutition.
Audiology 3 credits
Explores the science of audiology and hearing research, emphasizing the impact of hearing abilities on speech and language development.
Aural Rehabilitation 3 credits
Explores foundations of aural habilitation and rehabilitation. This course integrates the science of hearing loss identification and management with specific emphasis on the strategies of speech-language and hearing professionals use in providing support and counseling, along with developing habilitation/rehabilitation plans to maximize auditory skills and promote communication success for children and adults.
Bioacoustics 3 credits
Introduction to Phonetics 3 credits
This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the production, classification, and transcription of speech sounds. Students will develop skills in transcription of speech at the vowel, consonant, and single-word level as well as connected speech.
Language Development 3 credits
Focuses on language development throughout the lifespan. Includes language development models, neuro-linguistics, cognitive, perceptual, and social bases of early language, school age, and adult pragmatic and semantic development.
Phonology & Articulation 3 credits
Explores articulation and phonological disorders, with emphasis on assessment and treatment.
