The College of Education, in partnership with other colleges at the University, urban and rural educators, Alaska business and community groups, and the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development, prepares and supports professional educators.
The College offers undergraduate and graduate curricula and programs designed to prepare personnel for various professional roles related to education in a variety of learning environments. Students are introduced to fundamental issues of education in the contemporary world through courses designed to develop perspective and understanding of the relationship of education to society. Courses provide theory and practice in the development of instructional materials and an understanding of methods of instruction.
AEIN
The College of Education received a $9.3 million U.S. Department of Education partnership grant to develop networks with 9 school districts in Alaska. The Alaska Educational Innovations Network (AEIN) serves over half of the State’s K-12 student population and 40% of its Alaska Native students. The grant links the College of Education; College of Arts and Sciences; Kenai, Mat-Su and Kodiak Community Campuses; GCI; Avant-Garde Learning Foundation; Anchorage Education Association; the National Education Association; and the districts of Anchorage, Kodiak Island Borough, Kashunamiut, Lake and Peninsula, Lower Kuskokwim, Mat-Su, Pribilof, Yupiit, and Sitka. ASDSA
The Anchorage School District (ASD) Summer Academy is a professional learning event organized by ASD’s Training and Professional Development Department in close collaboration with the COE Office of Professional and Continuing Education. PACE served nearly 1,000 teachers at the 2008 Summer Academy.
