MISSION The UAA College of Education Office of Clinical Experience, Teacher Certification and Student Services provides accurate, dependable and friendly service to students from the first inquiry through application for professional licensure. The professional staff are an integral part of a community of educators dedicated to improving the quality of education and preparing teachers to transform lives. The office director and staff work in collaboration with the faculty and staff of all COE departments to ensure quality services including:
- Advising for student success in initial teacher certification programs
- Program information for graduate students and the general public
- Practicum and internship placements
- Coordination of observation, practicum, and student teaching in collaborating districts
- Institutional Recommendations (IR) for teacher certification (teachers, administrators, and special services)
- Assist candidates with degree processing requirements concerning the State of Alaska
We prepare educators and support the lifelong learning of professionals to embrace diversity and to be intellectually and ethically strong, resilient, and passionate in their work with Alaska’s learners, families and communities.
Programs
The College of Education offers undergraduate, postbaccalaureate, and graduate programs. Many of the programs result in state licensure.
Undergraduate programs include certificate and associate programs in Early Childhood Development, occupational endorsement certificates in School Age Care, and baccalaureate programs in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. Early Childhood and Elementary Education are also offered at the post-baccalaureate level.
A Master of Arts in Teaching program is available for secondary education.

Master of Education programs are available in Counselor Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Educational Leadership, Special Education, and Special Education Administration. Graduate certificate programs include Educational Leadership (principal and superintendent), e-Learning, Language Education, and Special Education. Graduate degree information is available from Student Services>Advising> Graduate from menu on the left.

- To recommend qualified graduates for professional licensure

LOCATION AND HOURS The Student Services Center is located in the Professional Studies Building (formerly the K Building) in Room 209 at the top of the central staircase. Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays).
