Construction of the Engineering & Industry Building is underway!

The new Engineering & Industry Building is located south of the UAA Bookstore and will connect to the UAA Health Sciences building via a pedestrian sky bridge across Providence Drive.The four-story building will add 81,500 gross square feet of teaching and laboratory space to the School of Engineering.

The innovative facility will provide 21 new state-of-the-art laboratories: fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, transportation, structures testing, cold regions, materials testing, geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics, materials science, microscopy, asset integrity (corrosion), water and waste water, wet chemistry, electrical engineering, electrical power utility and transmission, electromagnetic engineering, dynamics and controls, computational, systems and networks, software and engineering design studio, heat and mass transfer, HVAC thermal systems, and a rooftop antenna dome.  

Other spaces include two classrooms enhanced for eLearning, four breakout rooms and a seminar room with interactive remote communication capability, a high-bay project design/assembly area, study commons area and group study cubicles, coffee shop, and over 40 offices for faculty and staff.

Planning is also underway to renovate the existing Engineering Building and to construct a new multistory parking garage with 500 spaces to accommodate the growing parking demand.
