I am honored to serve as the Dean to the new College of Health. This position gives me the opportunity to expand on the work I have been involved with as a Senior Fellow with the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority, as Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, and as that department’s first Director of the Division of Behavioral Health. We look forward to working closely with our many community partners as we improve the health and well being of all Alaskans. Over the next several months we will create a strategic vision and direction for the college, explore inter disciplinary and inter- professional research and instructional opportunities, as well as develop a “One Stop Shop” student advising center. Please join our faculty, staff, students, and alumni in helping to move the College of Health forward during this exciting time.
- William Hogan, MSW, Dean
The College of Health is home to over 40 programs at the graduate, undergraduate, associate, and certificate levels. Our programs in high demand areas prepare students to fulfill workforce needs throughout Alaska in health care and social services. Innovative collaborations allow us to provide Alaskan students the opportunity to obtain advanced health care education in areas such as the WWAMI Medical Education Program, the Creighton University/UAA doctoral programs in Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy, and the MEDEX Physician Assistant program. We are the home to a variety of outreach programs, including delivery of the AAS degree in Nursing to students in 13 sites around Alaska, and are one of the leaders in online courses and degree offerings. The COH Office of Student Affairs, scheduled to open in fall 2012, will provide a convenient one-stop location to support prospective and current students in achieving their academic goals. I invite you to explore our many program offerings, centers, and institutes, and consider joining us in the College of Health.
