The Pharmacy Technology Program is unique in that it is delivered entirely online.  It uses the web-based tool called Blackboard (Bb). Blackboard is the course management system that allows for dynamic learning to occur in the online environment.  In the case of online courses, like those within the Pharmacy Technoloyg Program, the Blackboard software acts as a platform for the course allowing students to access lecture material, quizzes, tests, and other course information posted by the instructor.  Blackboard also allows for students to interact with the instructor and other students in the course via email, discussion boards, and chats in virtual classrooms.

What do I need to take an online class?

  • A computer connected to the Internet;
  • An Internet connection that is 56K or better;

How are web-based courses different than on-campus courses?

The greatest difference between web-based courses and their on-campus counterparts is simple:  you don't have to physically attend class.  However, the greatest mistake a student can make is to take a distance delivered course because they think it will be easy.  Web-based courses are a great option for students who may not be able to make it to campus due to work, family, or personal obligations.  However, distance students have to exercise a lot of self discipline and time management skills to be successful in the classes.

Interesting in seeing what a Pharmacy Technology course might look like?

Take a look at the Pharmacy Technology Open House course in Blackboard. To login you will need the following information:  Login Name (appt) and Password (pharm1!).  Actual classes will vary but, will all be using the Blackboard system.
