Heavy Duty Transportation & Equipment, Certificate

U.S. and Alaska Department of Labor studies consistently predict an increasing demand for trained employees in the field of diesel technology maintenance. Career opportunities for Diesel Technology graduates include manufacturer and independent repair shops, fleets, construction, mining, aviation ground support, and the seafood processing industry. The certificate in Heavy Duty Transportation & Equipment can be completed in five (5) semesters, including one summer semester of practicum.

Upon graduation, you will be able to:

  • Understand the theory of diesel engine operation.
  • Demonstrate proper diagnosis and repair techniques for diesel engines.
  • Understand the theory of medium- and heavy-duty drive trains.
  • Demonstrate proper diagnosis and repair techniques for medium- and heavy-duty drive trains.
  • Understand the theory of pneumatic and hydraulic brake systems and their application on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Demonstrate proper diagnostic and repair techniques for pneumatic and hydraulic brake systems and their application on medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Understand the theory of suspension and steering on medium- and heavy-duty vehicle applications.
  • Understand the theory of electrical/electronic systems and their application on medium- and heavy-duty applications.
  • Demonstrate proper diagnosis and repair techniques for electrical/electronic systems on medium- and heavy-duty applications.
  • Understand the theory of air conditioning, and climate control, on modern vehicle applications.
  • Demonstrate proper diagnosis and repair techniques for heating and air conditioning systems, on medium- and heavy-duty vehicle applications
  • Demonstrate proper techniques for preventive maintenance on medium- and heavy-duty applications.

Heavy Duty Transportation and EquipmentAll programs are NATEF certified.  All faculty are ASE certified.
