Heavy Duty Transportation & Equipment

The Heavy Duty Transportation & Equipment (HDTE) program prepares students for high-paying jobs and the challenge of skilled repair work.  Diesel engine maintenance becomes increasingly complex as more electronic components are used to control engine operation. With Industry partners and certified technical training, the AAS and certificate will prepare students for the workforce.

Associate of Applied Science in HDTE

The Heavy Duty Transportation and Equipment (HDTE) AAS degree is designed to teach students the skills needed to be successful as technicians in the medium and heavy duty truck and equipment service industry. The AAS degree may be completed in five semesters, which includes one summer semester of practicum. Laboratory experiences are performed on equipment and components currently used in the heavy duty transportation, construction and power generation industries. Much of the curriculum is based on medium and heavy duty maintenance and repair task lists developed by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Students train on vehicles, equipment, and components provided by or procured from major manufacturers of medium and heavy duty trucks and equipment.

The AAS program prepares students to understand the theory of, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, as well as medium and heavy-duty drive trains, pneumatic and hydraulic brake systems, suspension steering, electrical/electronic systems, and heating and air conditioning systems on medium and heavy duty vehicle applications.
