The UAA campus is located between city and wilderness in what is known as the Anchorage Bowl. Bound by Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountain Ranges, the vibrant and diverse community of 280,000 includes the amenities and conveniences of any urban setting. But few communities can also claim salmon streams, hundreds of resident moose, a healthy (but polite) population of black and grizzly bears, 
and the privilege of bordering America’s second largest state park encompassing a half-million acres of true wilderness in America’s second largest state park.
Our campus includes lakes, trails, marshes and woods that are home to waterfowl, beavers, moose and other animals. Immediately accessible are miles of forested trails for biking or walking to the wildlands of Campbell Creek, Far North Bicentennial Park, and the Chugach foothills.
Within four hours of driving, you can reach the alpine majesty of Denali National Park and Preserve, the jeweled coastlines of Prince William Sound and Kachemak Bay, or the broad expanses of the Copper River valley.
Anchorage summers are green and lush under a sun that doesn’t set until nearly 11:00 p.m. In this inspiring landscape it’s possible to discover the solitude that cultivates creativity, or seek the companionship of shared interests.
