Students Entering a SessionWhen students enter an eLive session, the environment can seem a little lonely. Staring at a blank whiteboard or "seeing" other students or the instructor in the session, but getting no response from talking or chatting in the session can add to the isolating nature of distance courses. Alleviating this can be done in two different ways worth considering when running an eLive session: 1) In the beginning of a semester, students may need a refresher on setting up audio and the tools they will be using in eLive. By using this linked welcome screen, a simple reminder and welcome can be provided for students. 2) Greetings students in an eLive session is akin to greeting them as they enter an actual classroom. Doing this online is possible without staring at the eLive session. Go to the Tools menu in the upper left, then go to Interaction. Click on the choice "Raise Hand upon Entering." This will cause students' hands to raise when they first enter the eLive session, which will trigger the hand-raising chime. NOTE: Both items in the Interaction tool must be checked in order for the chime to sound when students enter the session. |
