Julius Cavira, "My Wayward Journey Thus Far..."

October 2nd to 28th: Art exhibit by Julius Cavira from October in the third floor of Consortium Library. Julius Cavira is an award-winning Filipino American artist who have exhibited his work nationwide and internationally.

Filipino American History and Health brown bag

The brown bag was held on Wednesday, October 5th from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Consortium Library, Rm. 307. Panel members included Dr. Gabriel Garcia from the Department of Health Sciences, Dr. EJ David from the Department of Psychology, Dr. Joy Chavez Mapaye from the Department of Journalism and Public Communications, Mariecris Gatlabayan from the Consortium Library, and Christine Marasigan, adjunct professor to the Department of Health Sciences, Filipino American National Historical Society trustee, and legislative staffer.

Dr. Connie Mariano, White House Doctor, talk and author reception

The talk was held on Friday, October 14th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Arts Building, Rm. 150. Dr. Mariano is the first military woman to become the White House Physician to Presidents H. W. Bush and Clinton, the first woman to be the Director of the White House Medical Unit, and the first Filipino American in US history to become a Navy Rear Admiral. After completing 24 years of active duty service in the Navy, Dr. Mariano retired and became a consultant in the Executive health Program at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Then in 2005, she went on to establish the Center for Executive Medicine, a medical concierge practice which provides presidential-quality medical care to CEOs and their families. An expert in presidential health care including the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, Dr. Mariano is a frequent speaker on the topics of care to VIPs, presidential disability, travel medicine, and optimizing quality of care. She recently published a book entitled, "The White House Doctor."

Dr. Joy Chavez Mapaye, The Evolution of Television: How TV Shapes Our Lives in a New Digital Ecosystem

Friday, October 21st, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Arts Building, Rm. 150: A research presentation by Dr. Joy Chavez Mapaye on media and communications. Dr. Mapaye is a Filipino American Assistant Professor of Journalism and Public Communication who have received awards in journalism and research, and was recently nominated for the Chancellor's Excellence in Teaching Award.
