Isotopic studies of lake systems are also important components of AKWIN. In northern Alaska, USGS and ENRI are examining the temporal variation in water balance responses and water evolution from ice-out (July) to freeze-up (September) in lakes with varying water sources (freshwater recharge vs. saltwater connectivity). Additional lake studies in AK are underway in the Mat Su Valley, Kenai Peninsula, Northern Foothills and planned for the Seward Peninsula.
