Covers the knowledge, skills, and values needed for effective social work practice with older adults and their families. Students will have the opportunity to develop the capability for accurate multi-dimensional assessments and effective interventions with, and on behalf of, older adults and their families. The course will cover thematic units of successful aging, diversity, physical health, mental health, planning for later years, end of life care, and health care system / health policy issues.

Overview of the issues that affect older adults and their lifestyles. Addresses normal physiological and psychological aging changes, and health concepts of prevention, promotion and protection. Includes issues affecting care giving of older family members in a multitude of settings. Explores health policies which have financial, legal, and ethical implications.
