Ethics Board

All University Honors Students sign the University Honors Code of Ethics.  A violation of this code is serious, and may result in a review by the University Honors College Ethics Board.

The University Honors Program College Board is composed of three University Honors students in good academic and disciplinary standing and two faculty members. Members of the Board are appointed jointly by the University Honors Student Advisory Board and the University Honors Administration.  All members sign a pledge of confidentiality.

Upon allegation of a code violation by a University Honors student, the University Honors Ethics Board must petition the President of the Union of Students and the Dean of Students to have one of its student members serve on the Judicial Board, if the matter involves a major sanction, and the accused student has opted for such proceedings.

The student in question will be given proper notice in writing five days prior to the meeting of the University Honors Ethics Board and will be given the opportunity to speak or give a defense of his or her conduct at the meeting.

The University Honors Ethics Board’s decision includes, but is not limited to,
consideration of past record, the seriousness of the offense, remorse of the student and degree of cooperation during the review process and any extenuating circumstances.

Sanctions given by the Ethics Board may include probation, suspension or dismissal from the University Honors College.

Students may appeal the decision of the University Honors Ethics Board to a joint meeting of the University Honors Student Advisory Board and the University Honors Administration.

Cody Rall"The University Honors College appealed to me because of how everyone within the academic program has to work hard, really apply themselves, and stay focused.”
