Purpose This code provides guidelines for the conduct of students enrolled in the University Honors College, University of Alaska Anchorage. University Honors students are expected to be models of academic excellence and personal integrity by their faculty and peers. This code expresses these ideals and expectations. This code operates as a complement to the Board of Regents’ policies, University of Alaska regulations and the rules set forth in the University of Alaska Anchorage Student Code of Conduct.
Aspirations The University Honors Student recognizes the importance of the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, and the freedom to learn and to pass on what has been learned to others. To this end the University Honors Student makes a personal commitment to the highest educational, ethical and personal standards in the pursuit of knowledge, and to participate meaningfully in the communities in which they live, learn and work.
Pledge As a condition of admittance to the University Honors College, University of Alaska Anchorage, a student must sign the following pledge (
download the pledge form), which becomes a part of his/her student record:
I will strive for academic excellence. I will act with integrity in all scholarly endeavors. I will treat faculty members, fellow students, and all members of the University Community with respect and empathy. I will respect the rights and property of others. I will notify the appropriate authority or agency if a student appears to present a threat to himself or herself, or others. I will strive to better my community through active participation. I will follow all rules, policies and regulations pertaining to the UAA Student Code of Conduct.
Specific standards: - Representing the finest students at UAA, University Honors Students endeavor to achieve their personal academic goals.
- University Honors Students are expected to pursue their personal academic goals in an ethical and honorable manner, avoiding academic improprieties such as plagiarizing, altering a grade record by nonacademic means, submitting another’s work as one’s own, cheating and receiving unapproved or inappropriate academic aid from others. University Honors Students are expected to report any of these observed violations to the proper authorities.
- While it is given that University Honors Students will not prefer the company of every person they meet while attending UAA, they should not hold prejudices against any other person based on age, sex, race, religion, disability, heritage, socioeconomic status, political, social or other affiliation or sexual preference.
- Should a student appear to present threats to others, University Honors Students are expected to notify the appropriate authority or agency of the observed behavior.
