In 2009 the University Honors Student Advisory Board (UHSAB) created the Peer Mentoring program to help advise incoming Honors students. The Mentoring Program is a built-in resource/support person in your major. It provides a great opportunity for new students to ask questions of mentors who have first-hand experience. The program is a guide to help you find your way around campus, before classes even start. Honors mentors help to prepare students for their thesis, undergraduate research, fellowships, grants, and/or major scholarships.
Mentors provide advice/suggestions on what courses to take, they are someone who can keep you up to date on requirements & deadlines in your major, as well as on events throughout campus. Peer mentors are matched with their mentees based on similarities in major, hobbies, and other interests. The Program provides a great way to find out how to get involved in campus life, meet new people and still remain on track with academics. The goal of this program is that the mentoring relationship will enhance students’ University life, academic careers, and Honors College experience.
