Study Abroad ProgramsUAA has many international partners so you can choose to study or intern throughout the world. However, with so many choices it can be difficult to decide what program is right for you. Study abroad programs can help you meet major or minor requirements, fulfill general education requirements, or achieve proficiency in a second language. Some programs offer integrated study opportunities at foreign universities, while some programs allow you to study topics specific to the site with other American students. It is important to think about your education goals for your international experience. Ask yourself:
Next you need to start researching different international opportunities. Below are links to study abroad programs so you can learn more about course offerings, living arrangements, excursions, duration of the program and costs. After doing some research, you will want to contact Leslie Tuovinen, International Affairs Coordinator, at (907) 786-4135 or via email, anlat@uaa.alaska.edu. She can provide you with further details on the programs and advise you through the application process. In addition to researching your program options, you will need to determine how your courses abroad help you fulfill course requirements at UAA. It is important that you meet with your academic advisor early on and discuss your study abroad plans. The course offerings are different at each foreign university, so you will want to determine which university offers the best courses for your degree at UAA. Students must petition to fulfill requirements with study abroad courses, so it is important that you talk with your academic advisor when choosing a program. Study Abroad programs are open to all students at UAA, but as Honors students your motivation, determination, and excellence in the classroom make you great candidates for these experiences.
