Honors Student Summer Johnson interns in Finland

Summer Johnson, a senior philosophy major, is spending fall semester doing an IE3 Global Internship teaching at an elementary school in Kokkola, Finland. She is working in an English Immersion classroom, as well as studying the entire Finnish educational system and other aspects of Finnish culture.  She is living with a host family and the Kokkola School District provided financial support for Summer’s airfare to Finland. In recognition of Alaska’s 50th anniversary the Honors College will be holding an amateur photo contest with the categories Alaska’s past, present, and future. Enter up to 5 photos to ayhonor@uaa.alaska.edu along with your name, the name of the piece, your contact info and which category you wish to compete in. Then join us on Oct. 13th for a showing and a prize giveaway for the winners. Find out more on the website

Spend Spring Semester in Washington DC - Full Scholarships Available.

hrough The Washington Center, UAA students can participate in semester-long academic internships in Washington, D.C. for credit. The fifteen-week program provides tailored internships that match the students’ academic, personal, and professional interests. The scholarship covers the program fee, housing, roundtrip air travel, and a living expense allowance.  Three full scholarships are available for students from Alaska for Spring 2009.  The application deadline is November 15.  For application materials, visit the website.  If you have any questions, contact Marian Mitchell
