Student Involvement

University Honors Student Advisory Board

University Honors is not just for students, it is also driven by students. The University Honors Student Advisory Board (UHSAB) advises the Dean of the University Honors College regarding the development and performance of the College's academic programs and about College activities and projects.

Every year, the UHSAB also creates various opportunities for Honors students to engage in...

  • Peer Mentoring

  • Event Planning

  • Fund-raising for the UHSAB

  • Recruiting New Honors Students

  • Volunteering in the Anchorage Community

If you are interested in getting involved, please contact a UHSAB member or the University Honors College (ayhonor@uaa.alaska.edu or 786-1086).

In addition, the UHSAB seeks students from each section of every Honors course to participate in meetings and serve as a representative.

Local, National and International Involvement

Students involve themselves and participate in the community in many ways through volunteer work and activism.

During 2009, six students from the Forty-Ninth State Fellows Program  worked as volunteers with elementary school children in the rural Alaskan villages of Tununak, Stebbins, and Aniak.

In conjunction with the non-profit organization Solace International, the UHSAB started UAA’s Afghanistan Girls’ School Project in 2003.

Through popcorn sales, a community raffle and other activities, the UHSAB raised over $25,000, which was dedicated to the construction of a girls' school in Afghanistan. This project also involved students, faculty and staff from across UAA, as it educated people about the status of women and girls in Afghanistan.

Cody Rall"I was surprised by how hard the [Honors College] faculty... work and how nice the students are.”
