My name is Manch Garhart the outdoor specialist and technical guru here at Recreation and Activities. I grew up in the Central Cascade Mountains out side of Seattle, Washington in a small ski town. I have a degree in Fire and Emergency Services, and teach as an adjunct professor for the Fire and Emergency Services Department. I am a Mountain Guide, Volunteer Firefighter, Ski Patrolman, Rescue Team Leader and an avid outdoors man. I am a certified AMGA TRSM, National Registered Emergency Medical Technician, AK State EMT 2, Wilderness First Responder, Fire Fighter 1, Rope Rescue Technician, along with Swift Water,Urban, and Wilderness rescue. My goal here is to make every experience safe and memorable. I hope to see you out in the field or stop by the office.

Hi my name is Molly! I am a currently a student here at UAA in the Physical Education- Adventure Leadership Program. I grew up here in Alaska as well as Oregon. I am happiest when I am enjoying the beautiful outdoors with other people that are having just as much fun as I am. You can usually spot me from far away because I will always be wearing a bandana and a smile!
Eric Nilan Student Assistant Instructor
Eric Nilan is a returning student to the university arena, attempting a second bachelors degree in International Studies. He recieved his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, and after graduating and working in the industry for a while, he spent two years traveling around the world, finding adventure throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. He was raised in the mountains of New Mexico and grew up hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. He discovered climbing actual rocks (as opposed to climbing just buildings and trees) in 1999 while attending school in Socorro New Mexico, and has been broadening his expanse of climbing ever since. He enjoys outdoor pursuits of all kinds including kayaking, rafting, surfing, snowboarding, and mountain biking. He started guiding this year, working in Southeast Alaska, and enjoys taking people out to experience all the amazing places that Alaska contains.
