The Alaska Youth First - Teacher Industry Externship Program was developed to create career awareness for Alaska's youth ages 14 - 24. By focusing on career awareness and work experience, this program fills the gaps in the workforce system.

A very important aspect of the teacher industry externship is the bridge built between the education community and the business world. The externship process gives educators an excellent opportunity to discuss education issues with employers. Teacher externs represent teachers from all areas in the education realm, and those who are active, enthusiastic participants in the process motivate business owners to continue the exchange process for more teaching professionals in the years to come.
