The Department of Health, Physical Education & Recreation (HPER) is committed to excellence in offering courses within the discipline of physical education and related disciplines. The courses provide the foundation for an undergraduate major that prepares students for leadership roles in health and fitness or adventure education as well as minors or occupational endorsement certificates within the discipline. In addition, the department offers a variety of courses for students from other fields who wish to learn new physical skills and/or develop personal wellness.

 
 
2012-2013
New Fee and Deadline Structure for the Application for Graduation

Beginning July 1st there will be a new fee and deadline structure for the Application for Graduation. The Application for Graduation fee will rise to $50 to offset costs associated with Degree Works, the cost of diploma covers, and to align UAA with fees charged by UAF & UAS. With this change students will no longer be charged an additional late fee and will have until the last class day of the semester to apply to graduate. See chart below for more information.

HPER Majors Professional 
Development Scholarship 

This scholarship provides up to $1000 in financial assistance to support professional development activities for students in HPER programs.

Conferences bring together the latest trends, the newest research, and well-known speakers as well as offer networking opportunities. They are highly valuable to emerging professionals.

A student may apply to attend any regional or national professional conference related to PE, outdoor recreation, and/or health and fitness. Applicants will be expected to contribute financially to the professional development experience. The initial cost is membership in the appropriate national organization. This is viewed as a token of the student's commitment.

Fill out the application online, print off the completed form, sign and turn in to ESH 125 front desk with all requested attachments no later than 5:00 p.m. on the due date noted on the application.
