UAA Policies

UAA is severely cracking down on students who are using the UAA network to illegally download copyrighted content from the web.  This is becoming a serious problem in colleges and universities throughout the country and UAA is no exception.

UAA has adopted a very stringent three strikes and you are out policy.

  • First time offenders will have their port moved into a gated environment,  meaning they will only have access to sites within the university network. Any site outside the university will be inaccessible using the university network.
  • Watch DVD produced by RIAA.
  • They will be required to review the universities computer use form.
  • First time offenders will also be required to come to the main campus and take a short computer course and pass an online proctored quiz with a 90% or higher score.
  • Once all these things are completed the violator will have their port reactivated to full access.

Second time offenders will again be immediately assigned to the gated environment.

  • Be required to come to main campus and take 3 hour face to face lecture course.
  • Pass the online quiz for the second time at 90% or better

Third time offenders will be forever assigned to the gated community.

The Federal Government is also becoming more and more involved with the prosecution of copyright violations.

The Recording Industry of America (RIAA) and the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) as well as other similar organizations are becoming more and more aggressive in finding and prosecuting alleged offenders in criminal court. penalties for first time offenders could result in fines up to $250,000 plus 5 years in  jail. There may also be some civil damages  up to $150,000 for each illegally downloaded song or movie.
