The ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, opened in 2009, is a new state of the art teaching and research facility on the main UAA campus. Bringing Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Physics and Astronomy together under one roof, the CPISB promotes cooperation across fields both in research and in learning. The CPISB houses more than fifteen teaching laboratories, two state-of the-art classrooms, numerous research laboratories, and the new UAA Planetarium and Visualization Theater. With ubiquitous Wi-Fi, on-site tutors and advisors, and easy access to faculty and staff, the CPISB offers UAA science students an excellent environment for learning. Funded in part by a generous donation from ConocoPhillips Alaska, Inc., the CPISB carries the ConocoPhillips name to honor this donation and to recognize the 20 million dollars in unrestricted support that ConocoPhillips has contributed to the University of Alaska since 1999. The 120,000-square-foot Integrated Science Building was designed as three separate wings housing offices, research laboratories, and teaching laboratories, all connected by a spacious atrium. The CPISB is the first UAA building that was conceived, designed and built with environmental and fiscal sustainability in mind. |
