Welcome greetings from Doni Williams, the International Student Advisor at University of Alaska Anchorage.

This video is recommended to watch for understanding of essential information.

This video is essential information in Arabic given by Dr. Abaza.

I-20 Package

After you have been admitted, you will receive an email from International Student Services informing you that your I-20/DS-2019 is ready to be sent and asking you how you would like it to be sent. We can send it by normal postal mail but this method is not recommended as documents are frequently lost and it can take a long time to get to your home country. We recommend sending it by faster courier service (USPS Express or FedEx) but there is an additional cost of $50. Which courier you choose should depend on the reliability of the service in your home country. If you want to send the packet by courier service, please send an email to intlsvcs@uaa.alaska.edu and let us know how you would like it to be sent and the exact address you want us to send it to. We will then charge your student account with $50 and you will have to pay for it on UAOnline. You can find instructions on how to pay online here

Your I-20 Packet

The following information is intended to be a reference only. DO NOT take any of the following steps UNTIL YOU RECEIVE YOUR I-20 FORM!

With your I-20 form, you will receive a package that will explain what you need to do between when you receive the I-20 and when you arrive in Anchorage.

Every International Student (F-1) and Exchange Visitor (J-1) will have to pay the SEVIS fee before they can apply for the visa. You can find more information on the SEVIS Fee Information sheet.

After the SEVIS fee has been paid and you have printed the receipt, make an appointment with the US embassy nearest to you. You can find information on how to get your visa on the Getting Your Visa information sheet.

When you receive your visa, you can start making plans to travel to Alaska. You can find a Road Map to Your Future at UAA here.

You can find information on how to register for classes here.

International Student Services offers a Welcome Package to all new students who have applied for and have been accepted to University Housing. You can find the Housing application here and the Reservation Form for the welcome package here.

Every new student has to attend the New International Student Orientation. It is offered every semester and is mandatory.

In order to maintain your F-1 status, follow the guidelines on the Maintaining F-1 Status sheet.

Visa Information

Students who have been admitted to UAA will receive their I-20 and will then have to apply for an F-1 visa (Canadian citizen do not need a visa).

Please visit the US Department of State website for information about US visa types. You can find an online application form for non-immigrant visas here. For visa processing times at your local US embassy or consulate, go to the Bureau of Consular Affairs website.

If you have problems logging in to your email account, or Blackboard, please go over the UAA username info sheet.
