F-1 ReinstatementF-1 reinstatement is a procedure that allows a student who’s SEVIS record has been terminated for violation of status to file an application with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to reinstate F-1 status. USCIS recognizes that students can experience problems while pursuing their education in the United States. When a student can document that the violation of the F-1 student regulations happened for reasons beyond his or her control or that the violation was minor, the Immigration Service may forgive the violation and restore F-1 student status. It is also possible to be reinstated if you can demonstrate that failure to regain your F-1 student status and the resulting interruption to your studies would cause great hardship. Consideration for reinstatement can take place only after the student has completed the reinstatement application process. Approval of reinstatement is not guaranteed, the process is costly ($300 or more), and takes a minimum of five months, during which the terminated student loses all F-1 benefits, including eligibility to work on-campus. ou can find more detailed information about how to apply for reinstatement here. |
