Advising Information

Majors FairWelcome to the Justice Center!

Speaking with an academic advisor is an important part of planning a successful college career.

Students who are interested in or currently pursuing a minor or degree/certificate in Justice or Legal Studies are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor in the Justice Center. Your advisor will assist you in creating an academic course plan that will help you explore your interests and define your goals.

Prospective Students

If you would like to meet with an advisor, but have not yet applied for admission to either of our programs, please contact one of the following program coordinators to set up an advising appointment:

Marny Rivera, Undergraduate Justice Program Coordinator
(907) 786-1126 or mrivera11@uaa.alaska.edu

Deborah Periman, Legal Studies Program Coordinator
(907) 786-1125 or dkperiman@uaa.alaska.edu

Current Students

Upon entry into one of our programs, you will be assigned to an advisor in the Justice Center. You may contact the Justice Center or may log into DegreeWorks to find out who your assigned advisor is. You may also ask to speak with a specific faculty member about your academic planning. You should see your advisor prior to registering for classes.

We highly recommend that students try to meet with their advisor during his or her office hours or by appointment. You may set up an appointment directly with your advisor. See the Faculty Office Hours page for office hours and faculty contact information.

Summer Advising

Justice Center faculty provide advising during the fall and spring semesters. In the summer, students will need to contact Russell Pressley, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for the College of Health (COH), at 907-786-4405; or Carey Brown, Academic Advising Coordinator, at 907-786-4417 to schedule an advising appointment.
