Introductory course for students with no previous knowledge of the German language. Develops listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in German for effective communication at the elementary level. Students gain understanding of basic cross-cultural perspectives.

Introductory course for students with no previous knowledge of the German language. Develops listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in German for effective communication at the elementary level. Students gain understanding of basic cross-cultural perspectives. 

GER A201    Intermediate German I - 4.0 CR
Intermediate course for students with basic knowledge of German.Enhances listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills for effective communication at the Intermediate I level.Students critically examine diverse cultural perspectives.

GER A202     Intermediate German II - 4.0 CR
Continuation of first semester in intermediate German. Further develops listening, speaking, reading, and writing proficiency for effective communication and in preparation for advanced study of German. Students interpret diverse cultural perspectives.

GER A105/205/305     Conversational Skills Maintenance I / II / III - 1.0 CR
Prerequisite: Proficiency as after one semester of college-level or one year of high school study in German (105). A maintenance and skills enhancement course at the elementary level, designed primarily to help students of German to retain what they have learned. With the focus on oral communication, the course emphasizes speaking, listening comprehension, and vocabulary building.

GER A301     Advanced German I 4.0 CR
Continued emphasis on developing students' listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency, aimed at effective communication and accompanied by the study of more complex and less common grammatical and stylistic structures. Students will study and discuss the formative events, forces, and personalities in the development of German culture.

GER A302     Advanced German II 4.0 CR
Increased emphasis on developing students' speaking and writing proficiency, reading and analytical skills, and cultural competency. Aimed at effective communication and the ability to function in a German cultural context. Continued study and discussion of formative events, forces and personalities in the development of German culture.

GER A310     Selected Topics in Advanced German 3.0 CR
An advanced course for students interested in conversation practice, writing skills, and cultural information about the German-speaking world. Topics will vary each time the course is offered. May be repeated for credit with a different subtitle. Conducted in German.

GER A 490     Selected Topics in German Literature - 3.0 CR
May be repeated for credit if topic varies. An advanced course for students interested in German literature with sufficient language proficiency to read and discuss assigned authors, in German. Focus may be on periods, genres, individual authors, groups of authors, movements, works from different periods dealing with the same topics, or individual works. Special Note: Will be offered alternate semesters or years.
