Tutors are available for students in all languages courses. Tutoring sessions take place in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in the Sally Monserud Hall (SMH) on the west end of campus and in the Administration/Humanities Building (ADM) on the east end of campus, where the Department of Languages is housed. Tutoring sessions are held in the LRC's Language Lab unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Tutoring schedules change each semester. They are posted in the LRC and in the hall outside the Languages department. If you need to know about tutoring hours right away then please have a look at the table below, or contact the Langauges administrative assistant at 786-4037. Tutor Schedules for ASL, Chinese, French and German Tutor schedule for Japanese, Spanish, and Russian Interested in tutoring for the Department of Languages? The Department of Languages maintains a hiring pool for applicants to tutor in all seven languages (American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish) which it offers; multilingual applicants only need to apply once. Please be specific about the language or languages you wish to tutor in your application. Applications which do not clearly relate to the Department of Languages tutoring position will be rejected. Tutors are hired on a semester-by-semester basis from among a pool of qualified applicants. They typically work between 5 and 15 hours each week during the semester, with the average tutor working about 7 hours a week. Openings for any given semester will depend upon the number of tutors available and on their individual schedules. Often a semester passes with no new openings; acceptance into the hiring pool is not a guarantee that you will be hired. How to apply: All applicants to UAA must apply using the web application procedures found at www.uakjobs.com. Students taking 6 or more credits in the semester in which they wish to tutor must apply under the "Student Assistant C" classification. All others must apply under the "Coordinator" classification. If you have questions about this process, please contact the administrative assistant at 907-786-4037. |
