Students may select from one of two programs to complete the requirements for the minor: a policy focus and/or a language focus.
Both of these options emphasize the dynamic nature of Alaska Native cultures and the conflict between traditional Native values and those of the dominant Euro-American society.
The Alaska Native Studies Minor is highly recommended for people living and working in Alaska's rural and urban areas.
**A minimum of 19 credits is required for the minor,
of which 6 credits must be upper division.**
Students interested in the Alaska Native Studies Minor must see the Director of AKNS to discuss their course of study and to fill out a declaration of Alaska Native Studies Minor Form.
